In a major victory for the security forces and the people of Kaduna State, the Nigerian Army has announced the killing of Boderi Isyaku, a notorious terrorists leader who was responsible for several heinous crimes, including the abduction of 39 college students and the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy.
According to a statement by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Boderi Isyaku was gunned down by troops on Wednesday night, along with some of his fighters, in a fierce battle around Bada/Riyawa general areas of Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
The commissioner said that the operation was coordinated by Major General VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Nigerian Army (and Force Commander, Operation Whirl Punch), who deployed meticulous planning and intelligence to track down the terrorists leader and his gang.
He added that the operation was confirmed by human intelligence sources and security forces carrying out internal security operations in the region.
Boderi Isyaku, who was also known as Boderi, was one of the most wanted criminals in the country, having terrorized Kaduna State and neighboring Niger State for nearly a decade. He was notorious for his brutal attacks, mass abductions and cruel, relentless killing of innocent people.
He was the mastermind behind the 11th March 2021 abduction of 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi LGA, who were later released after a long ordeal. He was also behind the 24th of August 2021 attack on the Afaka campus of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Igabi LGA, where two officers were killed and another abducted.
Boderi Isyaku was also involved in a range of other deadly attacks across Sabon Birni, Rigasa, Buruku, Gwagwada, Rijana and Kateri general areas, the Kaduna-Abuja Road, the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, as well as Shiroro, Alawa, and Mangoro general areas of neighbouring Niger State. His activities included vast and elaborate operations in cattle rustling and gunrunning. He was also known to have built a close rapport with terrorist groups, collaborating with them towards establishing footholds in these areas. Recent intelligence reports revealed his plans to attack a school in his sphere of operation. Those plans have been thankfully truncated.
The commissioner said that the troops recovered two AK47 rifles, 300 rounds of ammunition, nine AK47 magazines, one magazine carrier, one Baofeng radio set and five motorcycles from the scene of the operation.
He commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, and thanked the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his consistent support to the security forces. He also congratulated the people of Kaduna State for the major breakthrough in the fight against banditry and terrorism, and urged them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
He assured the public that the security forces will continue to pursue and neutralize the remaining bandits and terrorists in the region, and restore peace and security to the state
