Six weeks after losing Senator Yahaya Abdullahi who served as Senate majority leader from July 2019 to June 2022, to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) replaced him with Senator Ibrahim Gobir (APC Sokoto East).
Gobir’s appointment was announced by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, as communicated to him by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Adamu in the letter said the appointment of Senator Gobir as new majority leader of the 9th Senate was sequel to request made to that effect by APC caucus in the Senate via a letter dated June 16, 2022 .
Immediately after his announcement, Senator Gobir took bows across aisles, and was led to his seat by the deputy majority leader, Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice.
