A morgue should ideally be a place where dead bodies are kept pending when their relatives and loved ones decide to get them buried.
In some cases, they are embalmed while the family waits to perform burial rites.
In an ideal situation, morgues or mortuaries are meant to be either government-owned or private-owned registered with the appropriate authorities.
But what happens when a mortuary is being operated against the dictates of the law?
The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, together with his team made a shocking discovery of a part of Elele-Alimini general hospital being used as an illegal mortuary where kidnap victims who died in the custody of their abductors are usually deposited.
It was also discovered that a part of the abandoned general hospital is being used for storage of illegally refined petroleum products by illegal artisan refiners.

The Council boss wondered why the leadership of Elele-Alimini would allow such despicable and atrocious business in the community, stressing that such evil activity cannot be going on without the involvement of some stakeholders in the community.
