CAUGHT IN THE ACT: NSCDC Arrests Impostor Posing As Naval Officer in Anambra 🎊 The Scoper Media 

In a decisive crackdown, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has apprehended an individual masquerading as a Nigerian Navy officer. The suspect, who had been deceitfully presenting himself as a naval personnel, was found to be involved in various fraudulent schemes across the state. The arrest highlights the NSCDC’s vigilance in combating impersonation and protecting citizens from fraudulent activities.

On Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, Chukwugozirim Christian, a 39-year-old male from Nnobi in Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area, was apprehended by NSCDC operatives. He was caught at Kwata Junction in Awka during a routine patrol, showcasing the vigilance of the security forces in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Chukwugozirim Christian had been fraudulently posing as a naval officer. Under this guise, he deceived unsuspecting civilians and orchestrated a series of criminal schemes. His elaborate ruse had misled many, but the truth of his deception and illicit activities began to unravel as the investigation progressed.

On August 7, 2024, at the Anambra State NSCDC Command Headquarters in Awka, Commandant Maku Olatunde proudly showcased a suspect recently apprehended by his team. He lauded his operatives for their keen vigilance and exemplary professionalism, which led to the suspect’s capture. Their diligent efforts were highlighted as a testament to the team’s commitment to upholding safety and order in the region.

“On Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, our personnel were on patrol to enforce the directive issued by the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to prevent undesirable elements and undemocratic forces from causing chaos and disrupting the peace among law-abiding residents of the state, particularly during the #EndBadGovernance Nationwide Protest.

“The suspect was observed exhibiting an unusual appearance while impersonating a military personnel, and his dubious behavior caught the attention of our operatives, who promptly pursued and apprehended him, subsequently bringing him in for questioning at our office.

“Upon questioning, the suspect alleged to be a naval rating, prompting the command to contact the Naval Base in Onitsha for verification. However, the Naval authorities confirmed that he was an impersonator, with no affiliation to the Nigerian Navy.

“A search of the suspect’s residence yielded a trove of incriminating evidence, including various  military gear like  walkie-talkie, a black beret and belt, a complete blue combat uniform, a lanyard, a camouflage top, a matchet, a white naval shirt and a blue belt” he said.

In a striking display of vigilance, Comdt Maku revealed that the recent parade of counterfeit naval personnel underscores the NSCDC’s unwavering commitment to thwart individuals exploiting security identities for criminal deeds in Anambra State. This operation highlights their relentless efforts to safeguard public trust and maintain order by rooting out those who misuse the guise of authority for illicit activities.

“The Corps remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the citizens of Anambra State from impostors and criminals, and we will continue to take decisive action against those who threaten the security and well-being of  Anambra residents.” he stated.

The NSCDC State Commissioner has ordered the Intelligence and Investigation Department to conduct an in-depth probe to track down and arrest the suspect’s accomplices, who remain at large. Once the investigation wraps up, the primary suspect will face formal charges in court.

The State Commandant has pledged a relentless pursuit of criminal activity, vowing that his team will exhaust every resource in their quest to eradicate crime in the region. He called on the community to stay alert and actively contribute by providing crucial, precise information that could facilitate the apprehension and prosecution of wrongdoers.
