CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS: LAWMA Academy Interns Drive Environmental Awareness In Otto Community 🎊 The Scoper Media

In a bid to further the state government’s community sanitation and advocacy campaign, LAWMA Academy’s 34th set of interns, known as Team Eco Resilience, conducted an enlightening outreach in Otto Community, Lagos Mainland, on Wednesday. The interns emphasized the importance of adopting effective waste management practices, engaging residents with practical tips and strategies to improve their environmental stewardship. This initiative aims to foster a cleaner, healthier community through education and active participation in sustainable waste disposal methods.

At the event, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and CEO of LAWMA, emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and proper waste management to the residents. Represented by Executive Director Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, he urged the community to integrate these practices into their daily lives for a cleaner, healthier environment.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment isn’t solely the duty of LAWMA but a shared responsibility. He urged residents to use covered bins for waste disposal to help prevent the spread of diseases.

Gbadegesin extended an invitation to the youth of the Otto community, encouraging them to enroll as interns at the LAWMA Academy. He emphasized the benefits of the program, highlighting the valuable skills and opportunities it offers for personal and professional growth. Thus he said,

“When graduate youths from the community register as interns, they can spread awareness about what they have learned. Various opportunities now exist in waste management. To benefit, we must open our eyes to the possibilities around us.”

In a address, Saloko Muiz Babatunde, the CDA chairman of Otto community and CDC chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, urged local residents to participate in the community’s upcoming weekly clean-up exercises. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in maintaining a clean environment and cautioned that non-participation would result in sanctions. Babatunde’s appeal underscores the community’s commitment to cleanliness and the shared responsibility of all residents in achieving this goal.

Prince Fuhad Oloto, the representative of the Oloto of Otto Community, along with Honourable Akeem Esuru-osho, the chief of staff to Oloto, have pledged their unwavering support for the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). Following a recent sanitation drive at Alamutu Market, Idi-Oro, led by Lagos State Government officials, traders at United Amu Market have proactively undertaken a major cleanup of their own business premises. This self-initiated effort highlights their commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic marketplace, inspired by the state’s recent public health campaign.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, praised the traders for their exemplary commitment to environmental stewardship. He encouraged other markets across the state to follow their lead, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper hygiene around their business areas.

“Achieving a clean and livable city of our dreams requires everyone to play their own part, we cannot afford to watch the beauty of the state erode due to indiscriminate refuse dumping and nonchalant attitude. The environment is ours to cherish and preserve. Let’s keep Lagos clean”, he said.
