On Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at the Badagry branch of his church in Lagos, renowned Nigerian prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele once again touched the lives of needy Nigerians through his heartwarming palliative market initiative. This event, known for its generosity and community support, provided essential supplies and assistance to those in need, further cementing Primate Ayodele’s reputation as a compassionate leader dedicated to uplifting the less fortunate.
The prices of essential commodities were drastically reduced to ensure affordability for church members and the local community. At the palliative market, half bags of rice were offered at N15,000, while quarter bags were available for N7,000. Five liters of groundnut oil were sold for N2,000. Many other items were also made available at similarly reduced prices, benefiting everyone who attended the event.
Among the fortunate recipients of this generosity are Muslims, security personnel, traders, and widows, among others.
Primate Ayodele has impressively held his fifth edition of the palliative market within just one year, showcasing his continued commitment to supporting the community.
The inaugural and second editions took place at his church’s Lagos headquarters in November 2023 and February 2024, respectively. The third edition ventured to Ekiti, followed by the fourth in Ijoko, Ogun State.
Ayodele’s palliative market has positively impacted the lives of over 5,000 individuals, offering them essential support and relief. Through this initiative, countless families have received much-needed aid, showcasing Ayodele’s commitment to uplifting the community and providing a lifeline to those in need.
Similarly, at the inaugural launch of his palliative market, Primate Ayodele unveiled a bold initiative to subsidize food prices, aiming to support the government in its battle against hunger. He emphasized that this effort was not only to alleviate immediate food insecurity but also to serve as a practical example for the government on how to effectively address and ultimately end hunger in the nation.
He argued that the government’s efforts to alleviate hardship have fallen short, suggesting that a more impactful approach would be to subsidize food prices. He highlighted that many people struggle to afford basic necessities due to the skyrocketing costs of food, and he believes that direct support in the form of price subsidies could make a significant difference in easing their burden.
‘’The government has failed to perform its duties in cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal; a problem they created. The people are suffering so much that they can’t afford to feed. We have thousands of people in several communities that have resorted to begging so they can feed yet the government claims to have done palliatives.’’
‘’ I am doing this because the government has missed it. I am contributing my quota to society so I can help the government do their job. If they don’t know how to do it, we will teach them how to do it. This is a model for the government to follow. There is serious hunger in the land and if the government can reduce it to a certain level, economic hardship will reduce.’’
