CRACKDOWN ON CRIME: 19 Held For Banditry, Cattle Rustling, And Abductions 🎊 The Scoper Media

In a major bust, Kano police recovered a significant cache of weapons and items linked to criminal activity. The seizure included two AK-47 rifles, a smoke pistol, a pump-action shotgun, 26 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, and 17 live cartridges. Authorities also confiscated two motor vehicles, 16 rams, various dangerous weapons, house-breaking tools, and charms believed to be used for protection or illicit purposes.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Kano police to crack down on illegal arms and criminal enterprises in the region, ensuring greater safety and security for the community.

In a recent appeal, CP Gumel urged residents to heighten their vigilance and continue their cooperation with the police. Emphasizing the importance of community involvement, he assured citizens that their active participation is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of their neighborhoods. Gumel highlighted ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect communities and called for a unified stance against crime. By working together, he believes, they can create a safer environment for all.

In a concerted effort to combat violent crime and ensure the safety of its residents, the Kano State Police Command has implemented extensive crime prevention patrols. These measures have led to the arrest of 19 suspects involved in a range of criminal activities, including armed robbery, cattle rustling, and kidnapping. Among the evidence seized were various illicit weapons, underscoring the seriousness of the offenses and the effectiveness of the police’s proactive approach to maintaining security in the state.

(i). On 02/06/2024 at about 0630hrs, Police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Hotoro Division, SP Umar Lawal while working in partnership with members of community, arrested the following nine (9) suspects; (1) Auwal Fulani, aged 27 years old, ‘m’, (2) Abdullahi Salisu, aged 28 years old, ‘m’, (3) Halilu Adamu, aged 37 years old, ‘m’, (4) Abdulkarim Harisu, aged 37 years old, ‘m’, (5) Alhassan Abubakar, aged 20 years old, ‘m’, (6) Sani Abdullahi, aged 45 years old, ‘m’, (7) Tasiu Jamilu, aged 25 years old, ‘m’, (8) Sani Muhammad, aged 45 years old, ‘m’, and (9) Auwal Umar, aged 25 years old, ‘m’, all of various addresses. 

During the course of the investigation, two (2) AK-47 rifles with breach numbers: 1983NA8154 and 3398, twenty-six (26) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and one of their operational Motor Vehicles, aToyota Sienna with Reg no Yab 243 AG were recovered from them. 

All the suspects confessed to belonging to a syndicate that engaged in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other banditry-related crimes. One of the suspects further revealed that they have already carried out assessment on their target location and are planning to rob at some at some places in the State. 

(ii). In a separate crime prevention effort of the Command, on 02/06/2024 at about 0500hrs, another syndicate with three members; (1) Samila Bello, aged 48 years old, ‘m’, (2) Abdullahi Garba, aged 35 years old, ‘m’, and (3) Mubarak Nura, aged 23 years old, ‘m’, all of various addresses were all apprehended around Hotoro Ring Road in the Kano Metropolis. Investigation revealed that the syndicate specialized in cattle rustling and a total of sixteen (16) Rams were recovered from their possession. 

(iii). Following a report of armed robbery at Best Plastic Company located along Hadejia Road Kano, on 22/05/2024 at about 0255hrs, where the robbers carted away with one AK-47 rifle from a security personnel on duty. Consequently, the Command began trail of the suspects. Sustained follow-up led to the arrest of the following six (6) members of the armed robbery syndicate on 02/06/2025 by Police Operatives at their hideout while preparing to escape from the State; (1) Usman Abdullahi, aged 26 years old, ‘m’, (2) Mustapha Umar, aged 25 years, ‘m’, (3) Nazifi Abdullahi, aged 30 years old, ‘m’, (4) Isa Abbas, aged 21 years old, ‘m’, (5) Junaidu Hamisu, aged 33 years old, ‘m’, and (6) Abdulrazak Aliyu, aged 22 years old, ‘m’. 

During the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime, and the following exhibits were recovered in their hideout located behind Port Container Base, Kano; (1) One smoke pistol with breach no: 3634566 loaded with one canister (2) One pump action rifle with breach no: 12649 loaded with seventeen (17) live cartridges, One Motor Vehicle mini pick up, six (6) cutlasses, three (3) sharp knives and other house breaking implements. The suspects further confessed to series of armed robbery incidents within the Metropolis.

(iv). Similarly, based on credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Warawa Division that one one Sa’adu Balarabe, ‘m’, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano was kidnapped. On receipt of the report, team of detectives swung into action and arrested one Murtala Ibrahim, 48 years old, ‘m’, of Kawon Mai Gari Quarters. 

The victim was released immediately after the arrest of the said suspect. The victim further revealed that the other suspects escaped and abandoned him.

(2). All the suspects are currently undergoing detailed investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command thereafter will be charged to court for prosecution. 

(3). The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc assures the public that the Command will continue to work tirelessly towards ensuring the protection of the lives and property of all Kano residents and bring perpetrators of criminal activities to justice.
