There was a Gas Tanker Leakage at  Stadium Hotel Bus Stop, between Stadium and Barracks in Surulere area, Lagos state, when a gas tanker/cylinder laden fully loaded with 22tonnes of cooking gas collided with a newly constructed truck barricade at Alaka area, causing damage to its gas tank. LASEMA’s swift response averted the explosion or fire at the scene of the accident.

According to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA),in a statement issued.

It states” We arrived at the scene to find a gas tanker leaking its contents into the surroundings. Upon further investigation, we discovered that the truck had collided with a newly constructed truck barricade at Alaka, causing damage to its gas tank. The truck continued its journey towards Ojuelegba, unaware of the leakage.

He further said that thankfully, there was no casualties or injuries have been reported thus far. However, the gas vapour was escaping rapidly and uncontrollably into the environment.

Similarly, as a precautionary measure, traffic flow in and out of the entire axis has been halted and residents in the area has been adequately sensitised to avoid any form of naked flame in order to avoid an explosion or fire outbreak because of the risk at hand.

Emergency agencies remain on high alert as the highly flammable gas disperses into the atmosphere, despite successfully sealing the gas tank. The operation is still ongoing.

Furthermore, the attempts to fully seal the truck were unsuccessful and the
truck has been escorted to its depot at Apapa by the FEDERAL FIRE, LASG FIRE and Nigeria Police, where the transloading of the contents will take place .

To cap it all, the road has now been fully reopened for public use.
