In response to a series of tragic crashes on the recently refurbished Third Mainland Bridge, which have resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken decisive action. Sector Commander Patrick Davou has launched a comprehensive speed-calming operation aimed at reducing accidents and enhancing safety for all bridge users. This initiative underscores the urgent need to address the hazardous driving behaviors that have plagued the newly reopened bridge, ensuring that it serves as a safe conduit for commuters.
In a recent statement, Superintendent Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, the Command’s Public Enlightenment Officer, announced a new initiative aimed at enforcing speed regulations and reducing road traffic accidents. The statement, shared with the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), highlighted the urgent need for this action due to a significant increase in traffic crashes caused by speeding. To combat this, additional personnel will be deployed along critical road stretches, ensuring drivers adhere to speed limits and enhancing overall road safety.
The statement further disclosed that the exercise is in preparation for the deployment of digital speed radar guns to enforce Speed Limit.
“The exercise is continuous as it has recorded a modicum of positive results,” the statement concluded.
