Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, urged 462 newly commissioned cadets to demonstrate dedication, professionalism, and effectiveness in their roles. He emphasized that their commitment is essential for improving police service delivery and ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens. Gaidam called on the cadets to uphold the values of integrity and excellence in the line of duty, reinforcing the importance of their role in maintaining law and order across the nation.
According to a statement by Mr. Bolaji Kazeem, Deputy Director of Information & Public Relations, the remarks were made during the passing out parade ceremony for the 6th Regular Course 6, 2018 Cadets. The event, which celebrated 462 graduating officers, took place at the Academy Parade Ground in the Police College, Wudil, Kano State. The parade was reviewed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The statement was shared with the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).
The Minister emphasized that after five years of intensive academic and professional training, Nigerians expect the graduates to bring value to the police force. He urged them to uphold fairness and accountability in the performance of their duties, contributing positively to the nation’s security framework.
He encouraged them to pause and reflect on the path that led them to this moment, reminding them that their training has equipped them to face the challenges that lie ahead. Gaidam emphasized that while skills are important, it is their character and integrity that will ultimately shape their careers.
In his words, “It is indeed a privilege to serve Nigeria and work towards the noble goal of ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Undoubtedly, there is still much work to be done. You should be fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead, and acknowledge the complexities associated with policing. However, you should be resolute in your commitment to bring about lasting change”. The Minister stressed.
According to him, “Community engagement and trust building should be your focus. You must be actively involved in the communities you serve, fostering a sense of cooperation and partnership. By enhancing coordination between Federal, State, and local law enforcement, we can create a unified front against crime and ensure a more effective response”.
Gaidam highlighted the Ministry of Police Affairs’ ongoing efforts to enhance the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and improve officer welfare and morale. These reforms include hosting town hall meetings to engage a wide range of stakeholders and strengthening the Police Community Relations Committee to foster better collaboration between the police and the public, with the ultimate goal of improving community safety.
He praised Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, along with his management team and the Commandant, for their steadfast dedication in molding the future leaders of the Police Force. Their unwavering commitment was highlighted as pivotal in shaping the next generation of officers, ensuring a legacy of excellence and service.
In conclusion however, The Minister reaffirmed their dedication to their responsibilities, urging them to strengthen community partnerships, enhance citizen engagement in policing efforts, and position the Nigerian police as a key player in realizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” They emphasized the vital role of law enforcement in fostering trust and collaboration to achieve the administration’s vision for a safer and more prosperous nation.
