Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji with state officials during an inspection of road rehabilitation project at Oke Bola Street, Ado-Ekiti.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji went on an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of Ado Ekiti township roads today, Saturday.
The difference between Governor Oyebanji’s presence on the streets and that of a former Governor of the State who was also always on the streets is that anytime Mr Governor is on the streets or goes on an inspection, he uses the opportunity to engage the ordinary people meaningfully.
The Governor Oyebanji you see on the streets does not gallivant or show off and just wave to the people for photo ups and then jumps into his car . No . He doesn’t . He engages the people . He asks questions from them directly . He gets to hear about their collective issues himself and provides solutions to minor issues on the spot .
He gets first hand information about the project being inspected from members of the community and not just rely on the information supplied on papers . This encourages members of the community to take ownership of government projects.
For instance, in the course of today’s inspection , Mr Governor took cognizance of some small business owners and traders within the streets . He engaged those who appeared to be in need of an intervention . He gave instructions to one of his aides to take their contacts and follow up for action.
During the inspection of Odo Ado/Mathew / Agric Olope /Chief Imam’s house road, Mr Governor made a dash for the Chief Imam’s residence to also get his sincere opinion of the ongoing road construction and other issues in the community .
This led the Governor to inspect the market in Agric Olope which is currently undergoing massive cleaning by the government to make it more attractive to traders . The iyaloja of the market ,while the Governor was engaging her and other traders ,promised not to desert the market and go back to roadside trading again.
This is the best form of communications engagement a government could have ;one -on – one engagement .
Government at all levels should adopt this style . Governor Oyebanji is simply taking governance to the people as he promised during his oath taking in October 2022.
On a lighter note , Ado Ekiti people turned the inspection to a carnival of sort .🤣
It was like a political rally and the Governor immediately seized the opportunity to canvass votes for the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu and other APC candidates in the coming election .
