A suspect, Lucky Okubo, arrested by the Police in connection with the death of 14-year-old Shallon Ebitare in an hotel room on Easter Sunday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital has opened up on how the teenager met her death.

Okubo who was first arrested by Police operatives attached to Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters before his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, said the deceased went to the bathroom to take her bath and fell, leading to her death.

According to him when he went in to see her, he saw that she had sustained injuries; he alerted the Hotel manager who assisted in taking the deceased to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) where she was pronounced dead by a Medical Doctor on duty.  Okubo’s story however did not explain how she had deep cuts on her neck and legs, a development which had prompted the father of the deceased, Mr Ebitari James to demand an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death of his daughter.

Sources from the deceased family had said her death could be connected to ritual killing which is one of the activities of Yahoo boys.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Command, ASP Musa Mohammed, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Alonyenu Farancis Idu who ordered a discreet investigation has appealed for calm from the general public.

He quoted Idu to have implored residents of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station
