A British man who was released by Russian-backed forces after he was captured in April while fighting for Ukraine has revealed what he experienced during his time in prison. According to a report published by The Guardian, Aiden Aslin said that he was beaten and asked if he wanted a quick or beautiful death.
He was reportedly captured in the southeastern city of Mariupol and kept in a cell with other inmates. Aslin said that a Russian soldier punched him in the face after his passport showed that he was from Britain. He added that he was tortured and treated worse than a dog.
Speaking further, Aslin recounted how he and other prisoners were forced to sing the Russian national anthem every morning for the past 6 months. He said that they were also forced to shout “Glory to Russia” anytime their cell was opened.
He explained that his captor stabbed him in the back and asked if he wanted a quick or beautiful death. Aslin said that he knew there was a high possibility he was about to be killed so he responded with a “quick death.” However, his captor told him that he was going to have a beautiful death.
According to The Guardian, Aslin was freed in an exchange that Saudi Arabia said it arranged between Russia and Ukraine
