Hauwa Ali, the wife of the late Lt Col A.H Ali, has reacted to the way her husband died serving his country.
She expressed her firm decision not to allow any of her children to pursue a military career in the wake of her husband’s tragic death in Okuama community, Ughelli South local government area of Delta state.
In an interview with Daily Trust, Ali’s widow emphasized her husband’s sacrifice for Nigeria, stating, “I will not advise any of his children to be in the military. Their father has already sacrificed his life for the country.”
The devastating incident occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, when 17 military personnel, including her husband, fell victim to an ambush during a peace mission in Okuama, leading to nationwide shock and grief.
Reflecting on her late husband’s character and dedication, Hauwa described him as a man of integrity and commitment, devoted both to his family and his duty. She recalled, “Words cannot describe him because he was everything to us. He was a man of his words, dedicated to both his family and work.”
Despite the inevitable nature of death, Hauwa expressed her profound grief over the sudden loss, revealing that she last spoke with her husband when he informed her about the peace mission. She lamented, “He called me that very day and told me that he was going for a peace mission. I never knew that it was the last time we would speak.”
