Inaugurated by Lagos State’s First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, a new healthcare initiative aims to enhance access to medical services for residents of Lagos Health District I, with a special focus on underserved communities. This project is set to significantly improve healthcare delivery, ensuring that even the most marginalized areas receive vital medical attention. It boosts efficiency by enabling real-time monitoring of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and supports remote consultations, connecting patients with specialists for timely care.
At the commissioning of the Rauf Aregbesola Primary Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola LCDA on Friday, September 27, 2024, the First Lady, through her representative Mrs. Omolola Sanyaolu, wife of the Egbe-Idimu LCDA Chairman, emphasized the importance of the newly introduced Remote Control System. Mrs. Sanyaolu underscored how this innovation would revolutionize healthcare delivery in the community, enhancing efficiency and access to essential services. Dr. Olufunmilayo Bankole, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos Health District I, proudly highlighted the district’s remarkable health initiatives in the past year. Under her leadership, more than 5,000 individuals benefited from comprehensive screenings for non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, cervical cancer, and breast cancer. These efforts were part of the district’s proactive outreach programs aimed at enhancing community health awareness and early detection, showcasing a commitment to improving the well-being of residents.
During the health screening initiative, it was discovered that 30% of participants exhibited health conditions necessitating further evaluation. The district is committed to diligently monitoring these cases, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary follow-up care and support.
Dr. Bankole highlighted the district’s commitment to child health, showcasing the achievements of an immunization intensification program designed to significantly decrease the number of zero-dose and partially immunized children in the Alimosho area. “Through this program, 512 children were identified and immunized, ensuring their protection against preventable diseases,” she said.
