Lagos NUJ Press Week: Sanwo-Olu, Obasa, Others For Awards ~ The Scoper Media



  Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, are among the outstanding Nigerians that will be celebrated for their excellent performances during the 2021 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council.

  Mr Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman of the Lagos Council made this known during a Media Briefing to lunch the 2021 Press Week scheduled to hold from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th October 2021.

    Other award nominees carefully selected after wide consultations, include Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Chief Executive, SIFAX Group for his outstanding contributions to Maritime Sector; Revd. Mother Esther Ajayi, Founder, Love of Christ Generation Church as an outstanding Philanthropist and Nigerian Shippers’ Council for its outstanding contributions to the Maritime Sector

  Mr Allen Onyema will be rewarded for his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s Aviation Sector; NUJ President, Chief Chris Isiguzo and Mrs Funke Fadugba will both be honoured for their outstanding contributions to NUJ.

   The week-long event scheduled to hold in Lagos State will be spiced with programmes such as Health Walk, Novelty Matches, Public Lecture, Chapels’ Rendezvous, Visit to Orphanages and Gala/Awards Night in order make the event colourful and memorable,” Ajayi said


   Members recall that on 26th November 2020, when Mr. Adeleye Ajayi emerged as Lagos Council Chairman, one of his campaign promises was to organise a befitting Press Week for the Council.

   This resulted in setting up the Press Week Committee headed by Mr Wale Akodu.

  The Committee’s mandate was to organise a Press Week that Journalists in Lagos will be proud to identify with.

   ” I must sincerely thank the Press Week Committee members for a job well done. I am sure that without the commitment and doggedness of committee members, today is not likely to be a reality.

   “It is a thing of joy as the Council is delighted to inform the public that all is now set and history will be made as members of Lagos Council and well-wishers will witness the best of ‘Press Week in decades,” the NUJ Chairman said.

   The long-anticipated Press Week of Lagos Council will be graced by stakeholders in the media profession and captains of industries from all walks of life.

   “Lagos Council believes that such gathering will afford members great opportunity to interact, ease work stress, network and close ranks between media owners and their employees,” Ajayi said

   According to him, the role of the media in any given society cannot be overemphasized, hence, this epoch event is also aimed at making sure that the press continues to take its rightful place in the society by holding government accountable and disseminating the factual and unbiased report to the public.

   The event equally seeks to strengthen the relationship between NUJ and other corporate organizations as well as government institutions or agencies at all levels.

   The event will equally showcase the best of journalists in categories such as Reporter of the Year, Feature Writer of the Year, Editor of the Year, Programme of the Year, Public Affairs/Information Officer of the Year, Photo Journalist of the Year, Sports Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year.

   The highlight of the Press Week will be the Public Lecture which has as its Theme: “Nigeria And Nation Building: Overcoming The Challenges Of Security, Restructuring And Self Determination For Progressive Development”.

   The Guest Speaker Mr Segun Adeniyi; Chairman, Editorial Board of Thisday Newspapers is expected to do justice to the theme.

   There will also be a distinguished panel of discussants comprising Professor Adepoju Tejumaye; Head of Department (Mass Communication), University of Lagos; Dr. Jide Johnson of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ); Mr Hakeem Odumosu; Lagos State Commissioner of Police; Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Church; and Dr Olusanya Awosan, Chairman, Essence Communications Limited.

   A renowned Professor of Mass Communication; Ralph Akinfeleye will Chairman the occasion.

   Ajayi who reiterated his commitment to taking members welfare seriously also urged members not to take their health with kid gloves; adding that life has no duplicate.

   The Chairman also commended sponsors and partners to the 2021 Lagos Council Press Week such as Dangote Group, SIFAX, FrieslandCampina, Airtel and others.

   Speaking at the Media briefing, Mr Erhumu Bayagbon, Head of Corporate Communications, Airtel Nigeria said he was happy to witness the media briefing.

  The Chairman of the Press Week Committee, Mr.Wale Akodu gave the vote of thanks.
