Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has respectfully declined his nomination for the prestigious Lagos State Man of the Year Award (LASMAYA) 2024. His decision underscores a commitment to focusing on his ongoing efforts to enhance waste management and environmental sustainability in Lagos. Despite the honor of being considered for such an esteemed accolade, Dr. Gbadegesin remains dedicated to his mission of fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents of Lagos.
Dr. Gbadegesin warmly thanked the award organizers in a heartfelt statement today, 17th July 2024, expressing his deep appreciation for being chosen for this prestigious honor.
He accepted the recognition, but stressed that the true credit belonged to the entire LAWMA team and the people of Lagos for their collective efforts in addressing waste management challenges.
“While deeply humbled by the recognition, I believe that the collective efforts of the LAWMA team and the entire Lagos citizenry in addressing waste management challenges are more deserving of such accolades,” Dr. Gbadegesin said.
In a bold move underscoring his dedication to LAWMA’s mission, he appealed to the public not to cast their votes in his favor. “Therefore, I decline the nomination and ask that voters refrain from supporting me,” he announced firmly.
Dr. Gbadegesin renewed his commitment to revolutionizing waste management in Lagos State, pledging to uphold LAWMA’s mission of fostering a cleaner, sustainable environment for every resident.
