On Friday, October 18, 2024, the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) visited Borno State to express condolences to the government and residents affected by the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri. The delegation aimed to show solidarity and support for those impacted by the disaster, reinforcing the community’s commitment to aid in recovery efforts. The visit highlighted the importance of unity and compassion in the face of adversity, as MUSWEN pledged to assist the flood victims during this challenging time.
Leading the MUSWEN delegation to Borno State was its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo. He was joined by a distinguished team, including Prof. Muslih ‘Tayo Yahya, the Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, as well as Barr. Y.K.O. Abdulkareem and Alhaji Murisiku Abidemi Siyanbade. Together, they represented the solidarity and support of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, underscoring a unified effort to extend comfort and assistance to the flood victims in Maiduguri.
The delegation’s first stop was the Government House in Maiduguri, where they met with Borno State Governor. During the visit, MUSWEN presented a generous donation of N50 million to the state government, aimed at supporting the rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the recent flood disaster. This gesture underscored MUSWEN’s commitment to aiding recovery and providing relief to the flood victims, reflecting their solidarity with the people of Borno in a time of need.
The delegation was received by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Speaking later at the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin El – Kanemi, the MUSWEN President said :”I am here with a delegation, on behalf of South West Muslim Leaders, to commiserate with you and stand in solidarity with Your Royal Highness and the good people of Maiduguri, on the September 10, 2024, devastating flood that ravaged the city.”
At the Palace of The Sheu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Garba Al-Amin El – Kanemi, CFR, FNSE presenting a gift to Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS, President of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), during the condolence/solidarity visit of MUSWEN to Maiduguri.
Alhaji Oladejo added that “The flood disaster, which we heard also affected this hallowed palace of Your Royal Highness, brought immense anguish to residents, who were still recovering from years of insurgency.
“The disaster, which struck at a critical time has also aggravated the existing food and nutrition crisis in the North East region.
“The disaster also damaged vital infrastructure such as: Hospitals; Schools; Roads and; Bridges, cutting off connections to various outer destinations.”
He noted that “Allah, subh’anahu wa ta’ala says in the Holy Qur’an, Chapter 49, Suratul Hujurat, verse 10 :
”Muslims are One single brotherhood… be mindful of your duty to Allah so He may show you Mercy.

Alhaji Oladejo posited that “We feel your pain; we stand with you in this difficult time and our thoughts are with those affected by the flood disaster. The flood’s impact on lives, livelihoods and infrastructure is heartbreaking.
“Let us continue to supplicate to our maker, Almighty Allah, to forgive our shortcomings, show us His Mercy and restore absolute peace to Maiduguri and Nigeria in general.”
During their visit, the MUSWEN delegation, led by President Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, had an audience with Borno State’s Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur. Speaking on behalf of the group, Alhaji Oladejo noted that the Deputy Governor warmly received them on behalf of Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum. The meeting highlighted MUSWEN’s commitment to showing solidarity and support to the people of Borno following the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri.
The statement also ha it as thus, during the visit, the MUSWEN delegation expressed deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in managing the flood crisis, offering prayers for his continued strength and success. Speaking on behalf of the group, Alhaji Oladejo emphasized their commitment to supporting the state’s recovery efforts. MUSWEN made a financial contribution to assist the Borno State Government in providing essential supplies, including food and basic necessities, to those affected by the floods in Maiduguri. This gesture was aimed at helping ease the hardships faced by the victims and offering a measure of relief during this challenging time.
