According to a report by Leadership News on August 12, 2024, a significant development has unfolded in the saga involving Mr. Igiebor, whose wife was captured in a widely circulated video tearing his international passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. Mr. Igiebor has chosen to respond by offering a detailed account of the incident for public scrutiny.
In his response, Mr. Igiebor disclosed that his wife had taken control of his social media account without permission and posted a video message earlier in the day. He acknowledged his wife’s resourcefulness in obtaining his account password, stating, “My wife posted something, I know she has gone far because she is very smart. She has gone far to get the password of this page and she posted something this morning.” Despite the situation, he expressed a willingness to address the matter collaboratively, emphasizing, “Since she wants us to do it this way, we will work on it together. I believe she will get tired.”
While Mr. Igiebor refrained from delving deeply into the root cause of the incident, he urged Nigerians to view the complete video, which had already attracted attention from various bloggers and international media outlets like CNN. He highlighted that the situation was resolvable within the family but suggested that his wife was escalating it unnecessarily. The report from LEADERSHIP also outlined Mrs. Favour Igiebor’s response to the event. In a subsequent video, she defended her actions and criticized bloggers for prematurely passing judgment without understanding her perspective. Mrs. Igiebor refuted the portrayal of her behavior as irrational and emphasized that she had valid reasons for her actions, hinting at underlying family issues and asserting a lack of agency in managing her own affairs, including her social media presence.
Following these revelations, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has initiated a formal inquiry into the matter. The NIS confirmed that Mrs. Igiebor had been identified and summoned for interrogation. The NIS underscored the potential legal implications of her actions under the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended) and indicated that if proven, she could face penalties as per the stipulations of the Act
