Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has asked a question on her Twitter handle: What is the difference between Hajia and Alhaja?
That question came as the popular Nollywood actress concluded the Hajj rites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Eagle Online recalls that Aigbe and her husband, Kazim Adeoti, are in Saudi Arabia for the 2023 Hajj.
The actress shared photographs of herself and husband in the holy land while they were performing the rites.
However, after completing the rites, Aigbe has asked the question of the title to adopt when she returns home.
Tweeting at: @realmercyaigbe, she wrote: “Edakun what is the difference between HAJIA and ALHAJA?
“Just asking respectfully 😁 because i want to decide if I should maintain my Hajia or kuku change it to Alhaja.
“Over to you guys!”
And Aigbe has been getting responses.
In response, a Twitter user: kola ibilola @kolaibi07, wrote: “Hajiya can used for women who has gone on pilgrimage, it can also be used as a title for a wealthy woman.
“Alhaja is the female and correct title used for a woman who has gone on pilgrimage and nothing more.
“Hajiya is famously used in the north while Alhaja is is used in SW.”
Another Twitter user: 🥀zubidesire…🕰🌹💤 @BabaIbrahim17, tweeted: “Understand this…
“If you meet Yoruba person from West..will call you Alhaja
“If you meet Hausa person from North.. Will call you Hajia
“All the same just choice of words from different angle.
