Mixta Real Estate has empowered 40 micro businesses in Lakowe Community, Lagos to support local businesses and strengthen community resilience.
The firm in partnership with Kokun Foundation also distributed 100 food boxes to indigent residents in the community.
Chief Commercial Officer, Mixta, Tola Akinsulire, said the event is part of the company’s CSR initiative on innovation, sustainability and empowerment, which underscores their dedication to uplifting communities.
Akinsulire, who stated that the initiative is mainly in three areas namely health, education and business empowerment, noted that in the past three to five years, Mixta has focused on health and education, and has now decided to pay more attention to business empowerment.
Speaking on the criteria for selection of beneficiaries, the chief commercial officer said: “One of the things about Mixta is that we believe if we are in a community, we should be part of that community, particularly in terms of engaging with the people. What we did was to go round the community to pick micro businesses that are in need of additional help to push their business to the next level. So, what we are doing is just providing support for them to conduct their business in a more comfortable atmosphere.β
Akinsulire said there would be more opportunities for people living in these communities, promising that Mixta is going to create more values for residents.
Noting that the current economic climate in the country is worrisome, he said it is important for Nigerians to support and help others around them.
Founder, Kokun Foundation, Olukokun Adepeju, expressed happiness over the firm’s support for micro businesses and promoting sustainability. He said Nigerians must do more, calling on other companies to emulate Mixta to assist people, noting that many are hungry and in need of assistance.
One of the beneficiaries, Rachel Akanni, said: βI feel so great. When they came this morning, I didnβt believe I was going to get this umbrella. I am very grateful because it is going to help me protect my drinks outside the shop from the sun.β
She commended the firm for the effort and prayed for Mixta Africa to go from strength to strength.
