A physically challenged lady identified as Judith Chioma has opened up on the challenges her husband went through when he declared his intention to marry her, and also on the challenges of living with disability in Nigeria.
In a recent interview with BBC News, Judith said – “When my husband said that he wanted to marry me, his mother called people to beat him up, because he’s the only son his mother has. So people came and beat him up and left him with serious injuries on his body. But despite all the challenges he faced, he didn’t give up on me.”
She said that every time she sees her husband and remembers all those things he passed through because of her, she realized that the love he has for her is very deep.
She said that she got married in 2018, and their marriage is now blessed with three kids – two boys and a girl.
She said she was doing her National Diploma when she got married, so after the programme, her husband advised her to go back to school and further her education. According to her, she studied Computer Science in the university, and recently completed her NYSC.
She said that her childhood ambition was to study Medicine, but when she got into secondary school, they told her that it was not easy for physically challenged people like her to get admission into medical college, so she decided to opt for Computer Science instead. She said that she is grateful to her husband for the support he gave her and the kids when she was in school.
Judith said that she wasn’t born this way, and that the problem started when she was four years old, although she can’t remember what led to the problem because she lost her parents when she was six years old. She said that what she can remember is that she used to fall sick a lot when she was a kid.
She said that she has passed through a lot in the past, but that she’s happy that the suffering is no longer as it was before.
