Speaking under the theme, Optimizing Data Experience, Maida acknowledged Nigeria’s accelerating data demand, driven by rapid digital growth and the expansion of 4G and 5G networks. He reaffirmed NCC’s commitment to creating a robust digital landscape that meets consumers’ needs and adapts to the nation’s technological advancements.
Dr. Aminu Maida addressed common frustrations among Nigerian consumers, particularly unexpected data depletion, which he explained is often linked to advanced devices and the data demands of high-resolution content. At the Telecoms Consumer Parliament, he introduced NCC’s latest initiatives designed to tackle these issues head-on. Among them, a new campaign promotes smarter data usage, encouraging consumers to manage data effectively. Additionally, NCC’s focus on billing transparency aims to simplify charges, empowering users to make informed choices and take full control of their digital consumption. With these efforts, Maida emphasized NCC’s commitment to a more user-friendly and responsive telecom experience in Nigeria.
Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, also addressed key challenges impacting the telecom sector, including the costly setbacks of vandalism and high operating expenses. He highlighted a significant advancement in safeguarding these services—the recent Presidential Order that designates telecom infrastructure as “Critical National Information Infrastructure.” This protection, he explained, is intended to deter vandalism, enhance the security of telecom assets, and ultimately improve the reliability of services nationwide. By prioritizing the resilience of telecom infrastructure, the NCC aims to build a more robust digital framework for Nigeria’s future.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Aminu Maida, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to a consumer-centered telecom industry. He promised the launch of new tools, such as incident reports and detailed network coverage maps, aimed at empowering Nigerians to make informed telecom choices. The parliament fostered a spirit of open dialogue, with Maida emphasizing that consumer feedback is at the heart of NCC’s mission. By prioritizing transparency and listening to consumer voices, the NCC aims to create a responsive, reliable telecom landscape
that truly reflects the needs and experiences of Nigerians.
