The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, has announced the interception of contraband goods valued at over ₦229 million within just seven days.
Speaking at a press briefing in Idiroko, Ogun State, the newly appointed Area Comptroller, Ahmadu Shuaibu, highlighted the success of the operation, which was driven by strategic intelligence, enhanced surveillance, and collaboration with vigilant citizens.
The seized items, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦229,112,424, were confiscated from various locations across the state. Shuaibu commended the efforts of his team and patriotic Nigerians who provided vital information, emphasizing the command’s unwavering commitment to curbing smuggling activities in the region.
“This achievement underscores the importance of synergy between the customs service and the public in safeguarding the nation’s economy and security,” he stated.

“Our operatives are determined to dismantle the smuggling networks that threaten our economy, endanger lives, and stifle local industries,” Shuaibu stated during a press briefing in Idiroko.
He emphasized the command’s commitment to sustained vigilance and pledged continued collaboration with other security agencies to combat the menace. “This is a fight for the economic integrity of our nation, and we remain resolute,” he added.
The Comptroller also called on the public to support the customs service by providing intelligence, underscoring the collective responsibility in safeguarding Nigeria’s economy.

Area Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu disclosed that the confiscated items included 2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), 1,128 parcels of cannabis weighing 1,109kg, 21 bales and two sacks of secondhand clothing, and 166 pneumatic tyres. Additionally, 4,360 cartons of imported shoes, 250 kegs of premium motor spirit (PMS), 20 vehicles used for smuggling, and a 2012 Toyota Highlander SUV were among the items intercepted.
“These illegal goods not only pose a severe threat to Nigeria’s economy but also jeopardize the safety and security of our society,” Shuaibu stated during a press briefing in Idiroko.
He emphasized that the operation, carried out in hotspots such as Idi-Iroko, Ilaro, Obada Oko, and Imeko-Afon, underscores the command’s unwavering commitment to curbing smuggling. The Comptroller also reiterated the importance of public collaboration in combating the menace and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.

“This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our officers, who continue to safeguard the nation’s economy and security,” he said.
