…set to Leverage on Highest African Membership for Improved Professional Policing
Delegates from the Nigeria Police Force, alongside representatives from other Nigerian law enforcement agencies, have arrived in Boston, USA, to participate in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2024 Annual Conference and Exhibition. The event, hosted at the Boston Convention Centre on Summer Street, gathers law enforcement leaders from around the world to discuss advancements in policing, share best practices, and explore cutting-edge technology in the field. The Nigerian delegation’s presence underscores the country’s commitment to enhancing its security operations and fostering global collaboration in law enforcement.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2024 Annual Conference officially opened today at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Centre, with a ceremony held in the grand Ballroom on Level 3. The event, running from October 19th to 22nd, was inaugurated by IACP President, Mr. John Letteney, alongside other senior officials of the Association. Delegates from around the world, including representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, gathered for the opening ceremony, setting the stage for discussions on law enforcement innovations and global collaboration The conference will feature a general assembly on Monday, October 21st, at 10 a.m., where key insights and strategies will be shared.
The Conference, which will have more than 16,000 participants, offers training and courses in different areas of policing, including forensic investigations, communication, public safety, community-based policing, response to crisis calls, psychological autopsy, election security and many others.
The NPF has over time leveraged on opportunities of Conferences like this, and many others organized by foreign security and law enforcement bodies, including INTERPOL, to heighten the capabilities and policing styles of its personnel across board, in the hope to further sharpen its proficiency.
The delegation from the Nigeria Police Force was addressed today on behalf of the IGP by the DIG FCID, DIG Abiodun Sylvester Alabi, fdc, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in the company of other top officers who are members including AIG Jonathan Towuru, mni, AIG Yekini Ayoku, mni, and CP Henry Uche of the NPF-NCCC. He further charged all the officers present at the event and participants at the Convention to be good ambassadors of the Force. Also, in attendance is Former IGP Ogbonaya Onovo.
Notably, the Nigeria Police Force holds the distinction of having the largest number of officers enrolled as members of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) from Africa. Among the 34,000 members representing 174 countries worldwide, Nigerian officers make up a significant portion, reflecting the country’s strong commitment to global policing standards and professional development.
