Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Oyo State Command has paraded thirteen suspected prostitutes including two minors
The suspects were paraded at the command headquarters in Agodi Ibadan by the corps commandant, Mr Augustine Padonu.
One of the prostitutes who is a minor and also pregnant Favour confessed to being a commercial sex worker and claimed that she was introduced to the work by her friend.
Another suspected prostitute, Mary Ofoja who is also a minor, said she is from Imo state and came to Ibadan for a greener pasture.
The manager of the motel who specializes in using underage girls for prostitution denied the allegations but said all the sex workers in his motel are adults.
The suspects, identified as Joy Ben (33), Blessing Edet (33), Rose Michael (37), and Okechukwu Michael, allegedly operated a network that brought underage girls from villages to Ibadan for exploitation in a hotel, located in Apata, Ibadan.
The two women who pimp the young girls for prostitution around the Apata area of Ibadan said they started the business in other to make ends meet.
Parading the suspects, Commandant Padonu said the arrests demonstrated their unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, especially children, from exploitation and abuse.
In a separate operation on July 30, 2024, the NSCDC’s Monitoring Team uncovered a fuel smuggling operation near Gwagwasu Moore Road, Kishi.
He said the team discovered 55 kegs, each containing 30 litres of suspected Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), hidden in the forest. While the suspects fled upon sighting the NSCDC team, efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
The NSCDC Oyo State Command reaffirmed its dedication to combating human trafficking and fuel smuggling, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
