In the early hours of today, at 12:30 AM, tragedy struck on the Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge as a devastating multi-vehicle collision unfolded. The crash claimed one life and left 17 others severely injured, turning the quiet night into a scene of chaos and sorrow. The bridge, now scarred by the wreckage, stands as a grim reminder of the fragility of life, while the injured are left to battle for survival.

A fully loaded Mack truck, bearing registration KWL 923 XB, lost control while speeding toward Ojota, its brakes reportedly failing. In a frantic attempt to stop, the driver plowed into seven vehicles, including buses and cars, causing significant damage. The chaotic collision left a trail of destruction, as the truck, laden with diesel, barreled into the unsuspecting traffic ahead. Preliminary investigations suggest that faulty brakes were to blame for the devastating incident.

The LASTMA Rescue Team, known for their prompt response to late-night emergencies on Lagos roads, swiftly became the first to arrive at the scene, demonstrating their dedication to ensuring safety and order throughout the city’s bustling streets.

Emergency responders were quickly mobilized, with the Lagos State Fire Service, LASAMBUS, LASEMA’s Response Unit (LRU), and officers from Anthony Police Station swiftly arriving on the scene to manage the crisis.

Tragically, a passenger on one of the impacted buses sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot. Meanwhile, LASAMBUS responders swiftly provided emergency care to 17 others who were injured. The injured passengers were then rushed to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.

The LASTMA Rescue Team acted quickly to remove the wreckage of a loaded truck, ensuring traffic resumed smoothly and preventing further congestion. Their swift response helped restore order and avert a looming gridlock disaster.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident. He offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and extended sincere wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
