It could be recalled that few days ago, a widow who was accused of being a witch by her late husband’s brother’s wife was tied, tortured and publicly flogged by members of her late husband’s community. The woman was identified as Mrs Amarachi Okechi.
The sad incident happened in Umueghu, Amaegbuato in Nkpa Bende LGA, Abia state, on Sunday the 28th of August, 2022. It caught the attention of the First Lady of Abia State and a human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu.
It was so pathetic that the widow couldn’t do anything at all because her hands and legs were firmely tied together, then the commencement of flogging by the strong guys in the community
In a recent video shared on Instagram by Linda Ikeji Blog, captured by The Scoper Media, the woman was seen receiving treatment in a hospital with her daughter (Onyiye), who came all the way from Logos.
Subsequently, a human rights organization has taken up her case and promised to get justice for her by making sure that everyone involved in publicly flogging her will be made to face the law. The First Lady of Abia state also agreed to pay her medical bill.
It should be noted here that we must not take laws into our hands .
