Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, on his election as the Chair of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR).
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a congratulatory statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said the election of Olowo, the immediate past Lagos State Commissioner of Finance, as Chair of the international organisation, is a testament to his commitment the accounting standards.
Dr. Olowo was elected as the Chair of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) during the organisation’s 41st session at Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, held November 6–8.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that Dr. Olowo, having distinguished himself in several positions at state and federal levels with good track records of transparency and accountability, will excel in his new role.
He said: “On behalf of the Lagos State Government and millions of Lagosians, I rejoice with Dr. Rabiu Olowo on his election as the Chair of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR).
“The emergence of Olowo as the Chair of an international group is good news to us in Lagos and Nigeria. We are proud of his remarkable achievements. He truly deserves the new position, having distinguished himself in several positions at the state and national levels with a high level of professionalism and integrity.
“We believe Dr. Olowo will use his new position to lead a global collaboration of experts, focusing on improving transparency in corporate reporting across the globe to ensure international accounting standards and practices.
