An Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti District, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of three men in a correctional centre for the alleged kidnapping and killing of an 82-year-old man, Michael Obasuyi, in the state.
The defendants, Sunday Obasuyi, 42, Akinniyi Ojo, 51, and Sunday Bobade, 51, are facing three-count of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, alleged that the defendants conspired and kidnapped 82-year-old Obasuyi, who was later killed and buried in the bush.
Oriyomi said, “On February 1, around 11am in Agbado Ekiti, they conspired and kidnapped Obasuyi. They also murdered him and dug the ground to bury him. It was after some weeks that the police combed the bush and saw the deceased body.”
He said, “The offences contravened Sections 280, 279 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State.”
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants to a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the remand of the defendants in the correctional centre pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till April 24 for mention.
