No fewer than 300 persons attended a one -day annual walk of the white cane for the visually impaired persons organized by the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) to sensitize the public .
Executive Chairman Mrs Arit Tunde-lmoye speaking at the event with the theme: “Navigating to independence “at Cappa Oshodi Lagos, She disclosed that the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) has been a forefront in the rehabliitation for blind for close to 70 years now.

The event started from 9am -3pm and featured activities such as long walk from Cappa Oshodi to Coker road llupeju and back to same venue with public awareness, designed for people with visual impairments, dance, music and fun.
She said: “Every human being should be allowed to hone their talents and skills and become anything they want to be. Any form of disability should not impede achieving their dreams.”
Tunde-lmoye also emphasised the importance of allowing every individual to hone their talents and skills regardless of disabilities.
FNSB Vice Chairman and planing commitee, Mrs Oluyemisi Daramola appealed to governments and stakeholders to support such events, stressing the need for equal opportunities and inclusiveness for people living with disabilities.
She highlighted FNSB’s mission since 1955 to provide hope, support, and opportunities for individuals facing blindness and visual impairment.
They are taught vocational skills, tie and dye, braille training, reading, bag making, beading , mobility, entrepreneurship , computer, l.C.T, typying among others.
Daramola emphasized the school’s commitment to promoting stable mental, physical wellbeing, good health and youth development of the blind.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Board of governors for Center for the Blind, Mrs. Ayopeju Njideka, appealed to drivers, motorists to consider the blind with white cane, its importance and welfare.
Mrs Njideka urged parents and caregivers of the visually impaired persons to be more caring, patient, tolerance because these persons still have a lot to contribute to national development.
