No fewer than 21 visually impaired graduating students have been advised to used the vocational skills achieved to empower others and boost the dwindling economy.
Federal Nigeria Society Blind, Board of Governors,Mrs Ayopeju Njideka made call during graduation ceremony held in Oshodi Lagos.
According to her, the theme “Thriving in Challenging Times” is very timely and powerful.”Our Vocational Training Centre for the Blind programs are not just pathways to employment or entrepreneurship; they are gateways to independence, self-reliance, and a future filled with possibilities.
According to her, through hands-on-training, assistive technologies, and a supportive community, we have strived to nurture not only professional skills but also the resilience and confidence needed to navigate a world that often underestimates the abilities with those without sight.”
The skills acquired here have not only opened doors to employment but also instilled a renewed sense of purpose and confidence they never thought possible.
She added that “This starts with independence and imbibe a mindset that positions them for success despite challenges associated with visual impairment.”Your commitment goes beyond imparting skills; it encompasses the spirit of empowerment. ‘
As chairman, it has been my privilege to witness firsthand the transformative impact of vocational training on the lives of these trainees who have moved to complaining and giving excuses to accomplishing their goals.
In his remark Mr Joseph Oladokun acting Principal said “Today we are celebrating a group of individuals who have not only embraced special education but have transcended barriers to attain knowledge that will undoubtedly shape their destinies. “
He added that throughout your stay here you have undergone a series of training to equip you for the world out there. You have taken classes on ICT and Assistive Technology, Braille Reading and Writing, Orientation and Mobility, Daily Living Skills, Personality Development and even vocational classes on Bead Making, Tie and Dye, Nylon Rope Craft and Soap Making. You have participated in extracurricular activities, and all of this sums up the wonderful journey that has now come to a successful end.
Oladokun urged them to put in best practices the skills acquired at VTC to impact your community and effect positive changes in our society.

Mrs Mojisola Abdul, Chief Executive Officer, MOJEC Nigéria Limited, urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the school and society as the go about their daily endeavours.
She emphasized that the blinds have passed through a lot challenges despite economy downturn. They have able to work on emotional, spiritual, financial and moral influences to add their quota to national development.
