Ummu Kulsum Sani Buhari, the lady killed in Kano, has been buried in Kano State in line with Islamic rites.
We gathered that her body was interred around 11 am on Saturday, with family, relatives, friends, and mourners in attendance.
The 23-year-old victim, also known as Ummita, was allegedly murdered by a Chinese man identified as Mr Geng.
The incident occurred Friday night at Kuntau residence in the Janbullo area of Dorayi in Kumbotso Local Government.
Geng was said to have gained entrance into the residence by jumping over the fence, and the sneaked into his target’s room.
The deceased, a graduate of Agriculture Science from Kampala University in Uganda, was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Sokoto.
Geng had a relationship with Ummita for about two years before she settled for another man within the city.
But she returned to her family home after the marriage crashed. Geng, who is yet to get over his heartbreak, tracked Ummita and allegedly stabbed her to death.
Public Relations Officer, Kano Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa said the report of the preliminary investigation would be made public soon.
Geng is in the custody of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after operatives saved him from mob action.
In a related development, following Ummita’s death, her mother has narrated to the newsmen the kind of relationship that existed between her and the Chinese man, and how he stormed their house and killed her in the night.
In the report by Sahara Reporters, Ummita’s mom said that her daughter was dating the Chinese man some years ago, but they later broke up. Following their breakup, Ummita later got married to someone else, but after sometime, the marriage broke up.
After her divorce, Mr Geng tried to come back into her life, but Ummita did not want the relationship.
She said that her daughter actually wanted to marry the Chinese man, but her uncles were against it, and she was in support of her uncles’ decision too.
Speaking further, she said that her daughter was avoiding him, and even when he called her, she didn’t pick, until that night when he came to their house and stabbed her to death.
She said – “He understands that she doesn’t want to see him. When he calls, she doesn’t pick up. That’s when he decided to invade. He knocked on the door for almost an hour. She was the one who asked me to go and send him away, after which he pushed me away upon opening the gate. He went straight to her room. He knows where her room is because he used to come here. Of course, she told him that she was going to marry him, but because her paternal uncles saw issues coming, they refused, and I agreed with them.”
The brutal murder of the young lady has sparked reactions on social media, with many calling on the authorities to ensure that justice is served in the matter.
Ummita was buried on Saturday morning according to Islamic rites.
We pray for the young lady’s soul to rest in peace, and also for her family to have the strength to bear this painful loss.
