No fewer than 18 Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service are said to have died in an accident on the Kano-Zaria Expressway on Sunday.
Though a video seen by The Eagle Online showed some of them alive, they eventually all died, reports said.
According to information available to The Eagle Online, the Officers, travelling in their Service bus with registration number: HQ 100 IS, were returning to Abuja from Kano, where they attended the Passing-Out-Parade at the Immigration Training School in Kano on Saturday.
The Passing-Out-Parade was for the 48th Superintendent Basic Course 2023.
As observed by The Eagle Online, the accident, which occurred at KM75 on the Kano-Zaria Expressway, was caused by a burst tyre.
The back tyre on the right side was completely damaged.
The Officers were seen all flung on the road, indicating that the bus somersaulted.
The Nigerian Immigration Service called attention to the accident when its posted an image on its Twitter handle, with the caption: “Our candles go up while our hearts are heavy.”
