A 22-year-old final year student of North-West University (NWU), Mamohlotši Rebecca Nchabeleng, was m8rdered by her boyfriend in South Africa.
Nchabeleng’s body was discovered in her private residence on Monday, 19 August 2024, at the Vanderbijlpark Campus, south of Gauteng province.
The heartbreaking discovery was made after her boyfriend, who is not affiliated with NWU, was found d@ad in Sharpeville earlier that same day.
A note found near his body reportedly provided crucial information that led authorities to Nchabeleng’s location.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her d@ath, but no arrests have been made yet.
The North-West University (NWU) community is reeling after the tragic death of the graduating BEd student.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the campus, highlighting once again the pervasive issue of gender-based violence in South Africa.
The university has expressed its deepest condolences to Nchabeleng’s family and friends and has taken immediate steps to support those affected. Counselling services have been made available to students and staff through the Student Counseling and Development Centre.
Professor Sibusiso Chalufu, Acting Executive Director of Student Life and DVC of Vanderbijlpark Campus Operations, conveyed the university’s sorrow.
