The sister of Gloria Nneka, the Nigerian soldier (private) who was murdered alongside her fiancee while traveling for their traditional marriage narrated to BBC News how an unknown man picked up her sister’s phone to tell her he has killed his sister because she was a Nigerian soldier. Gloria’s declined the attempt of BBC News to show her face in the camera, so the camera was showing her from behind during the interview.
She said she had a call with her sister and her fiancee early in the morning when they just left for the traditional marriage, then some hours later when she called, she couldn’t reach them anymore. She tried severally but to no avail. Some hours later, one of her brothers called and told her that Gloria and others were attacked and killed on their way to the traditional marriage by some unknown gunmen.
She screamed immediately after hearing the sad news, her scream drew the attention of some of her neighbors who started asking her what the matter was. After hearing the sad news, she still insisted on calling her sister to know whether she will pick up. Her sister’s phone was ringing continuously without anyone picking up, but she kept calling.
Later on, a strange man finally picked up the call, she asked the man about her sister, the owner of the phone. The man boldly told her that she was gone, her sister is dead and gone. She asked how it happened, and he told her that they killed her and her fiancee with others. She asked why they killed her sister, the man told her that they killed her because she’s a Nigerian soldier.
Undoubtedly, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, she couldn’t believe she was speaking with the person who murdered her sister. The man had the guts to boldly tell her that he was responsible for killing her sister. She cried out her eyes the day the incident happened, and that’s a day she would never forget so easily.
