“My Dear Highly Esteemed Professional Colleagues,

Support Request for My Candidacy as Council Member/ Leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations

I trust this letter meets you well. It is with humility and a deep sense of purpose that I write you today. As a dedicated career-long member of our beloved Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), I excitedly wish to announce my candidacy for the exalted position of President- in the forthcoming election.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable growth and evolution of our institute. The Public Relations Institute has consistently stood as a beacon of excellence, fostering professional development, innovation, and collaboration within our dynamic field. As we stand at the threshold of a new dawn, I am inspired to put myself forward to contribute all the experience I have garnered on my professional journey, my leadership skills, vision, and unique ability to problem-solve –  to guide our institute toward even greater heights.

Globally, the field of public relations is undergoing rapid changes, driven by technological advancements, shifting communication landscapes, and evolving stakeholder expectations. In these transformative times, it is indeed crucial that our institutes’ leadership be equipped with the foresight and agility to navigate these challenges and harness the opportunities they present for the benefit of our trade, industry, and professionals who earn a living off it.

My extensive experience in the public relations industry, spanning over 28 years has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and nuances of our industry. Throughout my career, I have successfully executed numerous strategic campaigns, managed cross-functional teams, and demonstrated a commitment to fostering ethical and effective communication practices.

As President of the Public Relations Institute, in addition to the agenda I had formally presented to you earlier, I am committed to:

Elevating Professional Development and Specialization: My greatest  passion is about bringing into fruition the concept of Caderisation. Caderisation, is a powerful tool that can significantly elevate the value and impact of our institute’s offerings and our members status in their various organisations. It is my passion that the diverse specializations that have emerged within our profession be recognized and appropriately evaluated. Caderisation will create distinct pathways for professional development, enabling our members to focus their skills and knowledge on specific areas of interest. This will not only encourage specialization but also empower our members to become experts in their chosen sphere of specialization.

Promoting Excellence: I promise to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and foster an environment of continuous learning and skill development for our members.

Embracing Innovation: I promise to drive innovative approaches that leverage emerging technologies and trends to communication ensuring our members remain at the forefront of industry developments.

Chapter Collaboration: I also intend to establish platforms that encourage collaboration among our diverse membership. Thus, creating a vibrant community where ideas and best practices are freely shared, and the environment enabled to promote individual and group and corporate aspiration towards global best-practices.

Advocacy for the Profession:  I promise to actively advocate for the recognition of our trade and practitioners therein, and enhance the value of public relations in various sectors, raising awareness about its role in shaping public and national perception as well as organizational success. Our institute is not only Nigeria’s foremost perception shaping tool, but also the gateway to international perception of our country and those of us actively involved in the industry. My advocacy shall see to the international recognition and placement of our institute through active collaborations with several international organizations, which would also lead to certificates we issue to our professionals granting them passes into other international PR gatekeepers fora, regulators and markets.

The goals I have listed above are attainable. I consider them to be our ‘Next-Level’ corporate aspirations.  Working with you and also counting on your support, NIPRs next leadership would be able to deliver these.

This is why as we are rounding up our campaigns for the election come 24 August 2023, I am writing to request your support and prayers as I embark on this journey. Your endorsement and vote would be invaluable in enabling me to bring about positive changes- (which I believe you personally crave) within our institute and the broader public relations community. Our collective goal is the institutionalization of a contemporary PR institute and a flagship one on the Africa continent for that matter.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve and connect with you further as we jointly create a vibrant future for the Public Relations Institute. I crave your indulgence and support. I remain open to engaging with you further in greater detail.

Thank you for your kind consideration, and labor of love for our institute in the years past. The future beckons. Nothing shall compare to the joy my heart shall experience knowing that you partnered with me to make this dream of retooling, reengineering, reigniting, and repositioning our institute to take its rightful place in our nation and the world.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve and connect with you further as we jointly create a vibrant future for the Public Relations Institute.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued dedication to our profession. With your support, I am confident that we can shape a brighter future for the Public Relations Institute.

Sincerely,

*Nkechi Ali-Balogun, fnipr
