Recipients of 2021 Egbin Power Plc Annual Scholarship program for her host communities

      Egbin Power Plc, the single largest power-generating plant in Sub-Saharan Africa has reaffirmed its commitment towards delivering quality education in the host communities by giving an all-expenses-paid scholarship to 20 outstanding students for the 2021/2022 academic session at the Powerfields Group of Schools, Egbin in Ijede LCDA of Lagos State.

The scholarship programme kicked off with a Pre-test examination where about 200 students from the three host communities; Egbin, Ipakan and Ijede took part. The shortlisted candidates advanced to the next stage of the programme which was a 2-day Bootcamp.

The Acting Chief Operating Officer Olurotimi Famuroti has said the company will continue to encourage the young minds by giving them the privilege and opportunity to learn.

According to him, the company has created a competitive avenue where these brilliant minds can aspire to attain the scholarship programme where the best students will be selected.

This year’s theme, #UnstoppableChampions, was reinforced over the two-day bootcamp with fun and engaging activities that will assist the children gain confidence and motivate them to keep pushing forward toward their goals. When faced with challenges, the “Unstoppables” were charged to never back down but rather breakthrough and emerge victorious.

   The scholarship programme ended with award ceremonies where the beneficiaries received their awards alongside other gifts ranging from laptops to educational tablets.

    The well-attended ceremonies took place in all three communities (Egbin, Ipakan, and Ijede), with traditional rulers and community leaders presenting the awards to the outstanding beneficiaries, thus encouraging community ownership and participation.

Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, the Executive Chairperson of Ijede LCDA and a Powerfields Group of Schools alumna, was also in attendance and challenged the beneficiaries to continue to be unstoppable champions.

  Since its inception, the scholarship programme has benefited over 70 students from the host communities. This is part of the company’s effort to ensure that young people gain the knowledge and skills they need to become global citizens, ensuring sustainable development through education.
