The tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Access Bank boss Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and his son on February 10, 2024, shocked the banking sector and Nigerians.
However, Faleye Olushola, the special assistant to Herbert Wigwe, narrowly escaped death by making a fateful decision.
Olushola, whose name was listed on the manifest, chose not to join his boss and family in the ill-fated helicopter. Instead, he decided to travel by road due to concerns about night-time weather conditions.
This decision proved to be a life-saving one.
The helicopter, operated by Orbic Air LLC, took off from Palm Springs, California, and was last seen near Fort Irwin/Barstow.
Olushola, who had flown with Wigwe, his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, from London to Palm Springs, had a narrow escape from the tragic air disaster.
Access Holdings, in response to the incident, stated that it currently lacks adequate information about the crash and is working closely with US authorities to gather updates
